The Friday Edition No. 05: Picking Up Where We Left Off
Sometimes the best thing we can do is simply begin again, right where we are.
Have you ever had one of those weeks when you look up and wonder where all the time went?
You had plans. Maybe even a list.
Things you wanted to finish around the house. Something you wanted to start. A few things you promised yourself you’d finally make time for.
And then life happened.
The days filled up, the weekend disappeared, and somehow the things you were excited about got pushed to the bottom of the list.
I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to let one busy week turn into another.
Especially when the things we’re putting off aren’t necessarily things we have to do.
They’re the things we want to do.
The projects that would make our homes feel a little better. The ideas we’re excited about. The things that remind us we’re creating a life, not just keeping up with one.
But here’s something I’m trying to remember.
We don’t have to start over every time we get interrupted.
Sometimes we just have to pick up where we left off.
ONE SMALL THING
Make the Next Step Smaller
Think of one thing you’ve been meaning to do.
Now make it smaller.
If you’ve been wanting to paint a room, choose the color.
If you’ve been meaning to organize the closet, clear one shelf.
If you’ve wanted to invite friends over, send the text.
If you’ve been dreaming about a trip, spend fifteen minutes looking at places you’d love to go.
Sometimes the reason we don’t start is that we’re thinking about everything that comes after the first step.
This weekend, don’t worry about finishing.
Just do enough to remind yourself that the thing still matters to you.
SOMETHING WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO
The Evenings That Make Us Want to Stay Home
There’s something about this time of year that makes an ordinary evening feel a little more special.
The lamps come on earlier.
Something warm sounds good for dinner.
A blanket ends up on the couch.
Maybe there’s a candle burning or a movie you’ve watched a dozen times playing in the background.
And suddenly, staying home feels like the best possible plan.
I love going places and finding new things to do. But I’m learning to appreciate the evenings when there’s nowhere else I need to be.
Sometimes that’s exactly the kind of life we’re working so hard to create.

FOR THE WEEKEND
Make Something You Haven’t Made in a While
Not necessarily a complicated recipe.
Maybe it’s the soup you always loved but haven’t made since last winter.
The breakfast you usually save for holidays.
A favorite dessert.
Or a meal that reminds you of someone.
There’s something comforting about returning to the familiar, especially when life has felt a little too busy.
Put on some music, take your time and let making dinner be part of the evening rather than another task to finish.
THIS WEEKEND
Friday night: Keep dinner simple. Light a candle, turn on a lamp and enjoy being home.
Saturday morning: Get outside for a little while. Coffee on the porch, a neighborhood walk or a stop at a favorite market.
Saturday afternoon: Give one unfinished project just thirty minutes. Then decide whether you want to keep going.
Sunday: Make something good for dinner and spend a little time getting ready for the week ahead.
And somewhere in there, leave room for absolutely nothing.

UNTIL NEXT FRIDAY
Maybe this weekend isn’t about getting ahead.
Maybe it’s simply about returning to something you care about.
The room you want to finish.
The friend you’ve been meaning to call.
The idea you haven’t quite given up on.
You don’t need a new beginning.
You can pick up right where you left off.
What’s one thing you’d love to make a little time for again?
Until next Friday,
